Mississauga (Canada), Oct 5 : Since it’s inception in 2015, the Canadian Canara Vision Inc (CCVI), a non-profit organization has been relentlessly serving the Canadian Catholics, originating from the Konkan and Canara coast, by providing affordable burials to make a difference in their lives. A team of capable, committed, and energetic individuals formed this organisation with the primary objective of providing feasible, and dignified burials and also giving 5% of the lots free to the needy of the community. In order to achieve this noble goal, CCVI has been hosting charity dinner dances, to raise funds and awareness among the community.

After a two-year hiatus, CCVI hosted their sixthth annual Charity Dinner Dance on October 1, 2022 at the Capitol Banquet Hall, Mississauga, Canada.

The evening was well attended by around 400 guests, sponsors and key personalities from the political front.

The solemn part of the programme was a tribute to Late Gilbert D’Souza. Flavian Pinto, one of the founder directors and a very close friend gave a befitting tribute to the late chairman by highlighting the visionary attributes and his accomplishments during his tenure of 4 years. He asked the guests to hold a minute of silence to honour this humble, sincere human being, who touched the lives of so many locally and globally.

He then handed over the mic to the acting chairman Nelson D’Costa who stepped up to the challenge to fill the void left by the incumbent chairman. Nelson in his opening remarks welcomed the guests and thanked the sponsors, the dignitaries, his co-directors and the key vendors who were instrumental in making the event a success. He also highlighted the importance of planning for the inevitable “death” and the services rendered by CCVI during the hour of need.

The popular MC of the community, Ivan D’Lima, conducted the event flawlessly and meticulously.

The band “Big Foot” –Victor Rodriguesand his troupe played live music alternating with DJ Joe; both these groups synchronised their music genres impeccably, who entertained and kept the guests dancing on the floor.

The crème de la crème was honouring Dr Dorothy Rego, an active member of the community with the CCVI “Yeomen Service Award, 2022”, for her exemplary contribution in the field of Scientific research, Public Health and Social science in India, Africa & Canada. She is an alumna of St Agnes College and received BSc in Botany, Zoology and Chemistry stream from the college from Mangaluru in 1991. The honour speech was delivered by Peter Lobo on behalf of CCVI and a plaque was presented to her by Martin Menezes.

CCVI appreciated the generous contribution of all the sponsors by inviting them on the floor and giving them a rose and dedicating a song as a token of their appreciation.

The highlight of the evening was a young guest singer Nidhi Subrahmanya, who sang the famous Bollywood song ‘Pinga’, which left the guests mesmerized and she received a thundering applause from them.

Nancy Lobo offered the grace to God for the meal served. An array of scrumptious food catered by Capitol Banquet hall satiated the taste buds of all. The evening was packed with dance, music, tons of spot prizes, door prizes and 50/50 cash prizes. Most of the guests were lucky to either receive spot prizes, 50/50 or door prizes.

The guests kept asking for more music and were dancing past midnight. The encouraging feedback received from the guests were gratifying to the directors, who left no stone unturned to make the event a resounding success.
